A range of new accommodation planned for Yalgoo and Sandstone will provide a welcome addition to the housing stock in both towns, Housing and Works Minister Tom Stephens announced today.
"Tenders will soon be awarded for the construction of two new three-bedroom duplexes in Yalgoo, and two new three-bedroom homes in Sandstone," Mr Stephens said.
The Yalgoo duplexes are to be built at Lot 28, Selwyn Street.
"The project is a joint venture between the Department of Housing and Works (DHW) and the Shire of Yalgoo and will improve the range of accommodation available to local residents," the Minister said.
"Through joint ventures between the department and local authorities, community groups, or charitable bodies, the limited housing dollar can be stretched further, with more people being housed in affordable and appropriate accommodation.
"With the reduction in Federal Government funding to Western Australia for housing, these partnerships are becoming more and more important in meeting the demand for special-purpose housing."
In Sandstone, two new three-bedroom single detached homes are to be built at 535 Hack Street and Lot 37 Griffith Street.
"In this case DHW and the Shire of Sandstone are working together to add to the stock of family accommodation available in Sandstone," Mr Stephens said.
The Yalgoo and Sandstone homes were designed by Kalbarri architect Max Watts, of Watts Design, and feature steel frames and roofs.

"I'm pleased to see that a local architect has been responsible for the plans of these new homes," the Minister said.
"It's another example of the Gallop Government's Buy Local policy at work across the State, creating employment and flow-on benefits for regional communities."
