New licensing centre officially opens at City West

There is now improved access to motor driver and vehicle licensing services for those in the Central Business District or Western suburbs.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan today officially opened a new Department for Planning and Infrastructure Licensing Centre at City West.
Ms MacTiernan said the new centre, which replaces the old East Perth Licensing Centre in Wickham Street, is part of a State Government plan to improve licensing centres throughout Western Australia.
"The East Perth facility was limited and did not have the capacity to process the growing number of people accessing licensing services on a daily basis," she said.
"This new centre will service the CBD and the Western suburbs and can easily process more than the anticipated 600 people expected to visit the facility each day.
"This new modern facility and similar centres opened at Broome, Geraldton and Bunbury earlier this year, together with the opening of the new Joondalup Licensing Centre and refurbishment of the Mandurah Licensing Centre last year, reflect the Government's strong commitment to improved customer service in this area."
Ms MacTiernan said there had been excellent feedback from customers who had visited the new centre since it opened for business in December.
"Most of the comments related to the improved access to the centre via both bus and train services and also the improved on-site parking which had been a long standing issue at the East Perth facility," she said.
The East Perth Licensing Centre had operated from Wickham Street in East Perth for more than 27 years making it one of the oldest licensing centres in Perth.
The new centre, located at the City West complex in West Perth, provides the full range of driver and vehicle licensing services, including driver licence assessments.
An important part of the services offered by the centre are the assessments for senior customers living in the Western suburbs.
Vehicle inspections will continue to be conducted from the existing facility in Bronte Street, East Perth.
