The State Government will build a new $7.5million school to replace the ageing Shark Bay Primary School by the start of the 2006 academic year.
Education and Training Minister Alan Carpenter said the new school would greatly enhance the educational opportunities of local students.
"The Gallop Government is committed to ensuring our children are provided with the best possible education resources and facilities in our regional areas," Mr Carpenter said.
"This new school will provide better facilities not only for the primary school students, but for the town's secondary students who are at present accommodated partly in the dilapidated former police station site."

Shark Bay Primary currently has 80 primary students and 21 secondary students.

"The existing permanent facilities at the school are old, worn out and don't allow the delivery of education in the best way," the Minister said.

"The current specialist facilities and toilets are accommodated in transportable buildings, many of which have been located at the school for a long time.

"The new specialist facilities will include materials technology, food technology and science areas for secondary students, Early Childhood classrooms, a library resource centre and a covered assembly area.
"The new school will also be provided with the latest technology to allow students high-speed access to the Internet and other computer-based learning technologies."
Mr Carpenter said the new school would be built on a site in the area bounded by Francis Road and Freycinet and Hughes streets.
Agreement about the site had been reached following discussions between the local shire, school community and the Department of Education and Training.
The Minister said an architect would be appointed by July this year enabling consultation to commence with the school community about plans.
