New pipeline separates irrigation supplies from potable water

Work has begun on a water pipeline along South River Road to separate supplies to Carnarvon town residents and to the irrigation distribution system.
Government Enterprises Minister Nick Griffiths said the new 4.2km pipeline was due for completion in March.
"Construction of the new main gives Carnarvon completely separate and dedicated supply mains, one to deliver potable supplies to town residents and the other to carry water for the irrigation distribution system.
"It is part of the Government's commitment to the irrigation industry as well as to ensure that potable water to Carnarvon is of a high quality," Mr Griffiths said.
"This project and the fact that the Gascoyne River recently experienced its first full flow in 31 months, has put the irrigation industry in an enviable position to further enhance its growth and value to the local community."
Mr Griffiths said some growers in the area might experience short disruptions to the supply of irrigation water during construction.
"However, the Water Corporation is liaising closely with the Gascoyne Water Co-operative and farmers who are likely to be affected," he said.
"The Water Corporation regrets any inconvenience to farmers during the crucial stages of construction."
