New postcard designs unveiled for WA
11/11/02
Two new postcards of Western Australia featuring the colourful artwork of school children were unveiled today by Tourism Minister Clive Brown.
These postcards were chosen from thousands of entries in the Design a Postcard of WA competition.
Winners Sean Leath, 11, of Churchlands and Joshua Jackson, 13, of Currambine, both won major prizes and their designs were printed onto 80,000 postcards that will be distributed to major tourist centres in the metropolitan area.
Serayia Burg, 11, Mirrabooka received special recognition for her creative artwork.
Mr Brown said the quality of entries was very high. Entrants aged eight to16 were asked to draw their favourite WA city and country attractions.
"The themes were well researched and I was impressed by the level of talent shown by our WA school children," he said.
"It's great to see what attractions inspire our young people.
"The competition allowed entrants to really think about what they loved most about the State, and possibly, where they would like to travel."
The Minister said the Swan River, Kings Park, Pinnacles, Margaret River, Monkey Mia, and the wildflowers featured most in the designs.
"Of course, these attractions represent only a small fraction of WA's best assets that help to make the State a premier nature-based tourist destination," he said.
Mr Brown presented gift bags to 20 finalists chosen from more than 200 entries.
The Design a Postcard of WA competition was a joint promotion by the State Government and the City of Perth.
Entries will be displayed in the windows of the Perth Town Hall until November 15.
