Education and Training Minister Alan Carpenter has today announced a new $7million primary school for the Bullsbrook community.
Mr Carpenter said the new school would be constructed as part of the Bullsbrook District High School site in readiness for the commencement of the 2007 school year.
The Member for Swan Hills, Jaye Radisich, had been lobbying the Minister for the new facilities and said it was a great decision for the school community.
"I have met with Bullsbrook District High School staff, P&C representatives and the wider school community several times about funding for new and updated educational facilities," Ms Radisich said.
"In fact, this project was so important to me that earlier this year I took the Premier Geoff Gallop to visit the school, meet the school community and discuss their ideas for the future of education in the Bullsbrook area."
Ms Radisich said Bullsbrook District High School had a current enrolment of more than 820 students in Years K-12. Of these, she said almost 560 students were accommodated in the primary section of the school in Years K-7.
"The new primary school section is going to improve the learning and teaching environments for students and teachers alike," Ms Radisich said.
The Minister said planning of the new facilities would commence early next year with the appointment of an architect and the establishment of a community consultation process.
He said construction of the new primary school facilities was expected to commence in the latter part of 2005, and to be complete by January 2007.
"The State Government has made a huge investment in providing new schools throughout Western Australia," Mr Carpenter said.
"We've spent close to $217million over the past four years on building new schools, an increase of more than $38million or 21 per cent on the previous Government's record.
"We've also been able to increase the Education and Training budget by more than $1.551billion or 26.5 per cent.
"We've been able to do this because of the Gallop Government's responsible economic management and four years of balanced Budgets.
"In contrast, the previous Liberal Government had five deficits in eight years, running down the State."
