The Labor Government had a firm commitment to meet the low-cost housing needs of seniors across the State, Housing and Works Minister Tom Stephens said today.
Speaking during a visit to a nearly completed seniors' complex in Mandurah, Mr Stephens said the provision of seniors' housing was an important part of the Government strategy to bring crucial services to communities outside of Perth.
"This particular complex also addresses our commitment to cater to the needs of people with disabilities," he said.
"It includes a purpose-built unit for an applicant with a disability."
The seven-unit complex at 5 Hobley Street, Mandurah, includes four one-bedroom units, and three two-bedroom units.
The units, designed by architect Michael Nolan, are being constructed by Mandurah based builders, Willis Homes.
The contract value is $484,152, and expected completion will be the end of March.
The units, which are now 60 per cent complete, replace a 33-year-old pair of three-bedroom duplexes of asbestos cement-clad construction, which were demolished last year.
