Students in North Canning Vale will have their own $5million primary school in 2005.
Education and Training Minister Alan Carpenter said the new school was part of more than $90million allocated from 2002 to 2005 to build 17 new primary schools in Western Australia.
Mr Carpenter today announced construction would start on a fourth primary school in the rapidly expanding suburb next year, adding to the existing Campbell, Canning Vale and Ranford Primary Schools.
He said the new school, tentatively called North Canning Vale Primary School, would ease pressure on Campbell Primary School.
"Enrolments at Campbell Primary, which opened just last year, have almost doubled in 12 months," Mr Carpenter said.
"There were almost 300 houses under construction in the nearby estate last October so student numbers are only going to increase.
"This new school will ensure there is no overcrowding in schools in the area and provide children in the northern part of the suburb with their own local school."
Local member Sheila McHale said the new school was much needed.
"I welcome the announcement. It will relieve pressure on Forest Crescent Primary School and ensure our children in this area have state-of-the-art educational facilities," Ms McHale said.
Mr Carpenter said the school would be built on a site on Shreeve Road in north-east Canning Vale.
"This location is best to serve the new developing areas of Canning Vale and arrangements for acquiring the land are already at an advanced stage," he said.
The Minister said the new school would have 12 classrooms, as well as three specially designed early childhood classrooms, an art/craft room and a music room.
"The progressive design of the school will incorporate a strong technology focus to enable easy integration of what is now essential technology into the school's teaching and learning programs," Mr Carpenter said.
"It will be equipped for the provision of the latest in computer technology, including modern computer workstations, fibre optic cabling throughout the classrooms and notebook computers."
