New walk trail to be built through tuart woodland
23/11/04
Premier Geoff Gallop today announced that an interpretive walk trail would be built through magnificent remnant tuart woodland on the southern boundary of Bunbury, in the Ocean to Preston River Regional Park.
The State Government will provide $150,000 towards the construction of the new walk trail.
Dr Gallop said tuart was the most significant tree dominated woodland on the Swan Coastal Plain and its conservation was vital.
"The new walk trail will highlight the importance of conserving our tuart woodlands for generations to come," he said.
"The trail will provide students and researchers with the opportunity to access information about the woodlands while enabling members of the community to experience the unique ecology of the tuart forest first-hand.
"The new walk trail will become another valuable addition to Bunbury's growing list of tourist and recreational attractions and once completed is likely to end up on the city's new tourist tram route."
The walk trail decision follows on from the Premier's announcement last month that the Government would provide $125,000 towards the construction of walkways, signage and a shelter at Bunbury's Big Swamp.
