Premier Geoff Gallop today officially opened the Kingsley Memorial Clubrooms, built in honour of the seven Kingsley Amateur Football Club members who died in Bali on October 12 last year.
Members of the football club who survived the blast pledged to build the clubrooms as a tribute to their team mates.
"Today's opening represents triumph over tragedy, because the entire community has come together to build not just a memorial but one of the best community centres in the northern suburbs that will serve football, cricket, scouts, seniors and anyone else who needs the facility," Dr Gallop said.
"This is special, because the value of these clubrooms is far in excess of the amount of money raised in public donations and provided by the City of Joondalup and Lotterywest."
The Kingsley Memorial Clubrooms were funded through contributions from the City of Joondalup ($150,000), Lotterywest ($100,000) and public donations ($30,000). More than 250 Perth people and businesses donated money, goods and services through the 92.9 fm 'Kingsley Football Club Bali Appeal'.
"The clubrooms are now valued at approximately $1million, because of the enormous amount of free labour and materials provided by a big team of volunteers led by Dale Alcock," Dr Gallop said.
"Mr Alcock and his supporting team of volunteers deserve our sincere thanks, not only for honouring the seven players who died, but in constructing a magnificent community facility."
The Memorial Clubrooms include new locker rooms and social facilities.
Representatives of the families of the seven players, the survivors, club members, donors and other special guests attended today's official opening of the Memorial Clubrooms.
Helium balloons were released to commemorate those Western Australians and Australians who died in the Bali bomb blasts last year.
