Bookings for Western Australia's Transwa passenger rail and coach services can now be made online.
Services provided by the regional passenger operation of the WA Government's Public Transport Authority services include:

  • the Prospector, Australind and Avonlink trains running between Perth and Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Bunbury and Northam respectively; and
  • 20 luxury coach routes servicing destinations including Geraldton, Kalbarri, Meekatharra, Esperance, Albany, Augusta and many communities between.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said Transwa took its first booking within an hour of opening.
Ms MacTiernan said the booking, from Armadale to Brunswick on the Australind train, was followed by a coach booking from Cranbrook (near Albany) to Perth.
"We understand Transwa is the only Government passenger transport organisation in Australia that offers an online booking service," the Minister said.
"Not only did the new Transwa service take bookings from metropolitan and regional areas on the first day, they also had an inquiry from New Zealand on the second day - a tangible demonstration of how a regional service can use the Internet to reach international markets.
"The booking system is just the latest example of the Gallop Government's commitment to creating an efficient public transport system."
Transwa's booking service at http://www.transwa.wa.gov.au is supported by a national 1300 number - 1300 6622 05 - which incurs only local call costs when made from anywhere in Australia.
