Soccer fans in the Goldfields will see Perth Glory play a pre-season game against NSL team Northern Spirit in Kalgoorlie on Saturday September 22.
Minister for Sport and Recreation Alan Carpenter said today that the game was possible through funding from the State Government's Country Sport Enrichment Scheme, administered by the Department of Sport and Recreation.
"I am pleased that, through the Country Sport Enrichment Scheme, high profile sporting teams are able to travel to regional areas," Mr Carpenter said.
"The State Government is committed to providing opportunities for people living in regional WA to see top class sport in their own backyard."
Mr Carpenter said that in addition to the Kalgoorlie game, Glory would also be visiting Northam and Merredin, conducting junior soccer clinics and coaching workshops along the way.
"The Country Sport Enrichment Scheme provides the funds to help sports take their stars out of the city and encouraging players and coaches to become involved with regional communities," he said.
"This is what the Country Sport Enrichment Scheme is all about. Putting communities in touch with elite sportspeople, to encourage participation in sport and provide the inspiration for young players to excel in their chosen sport.
"Perth Glory has a huge regional support base, and this tour will be a chance for players to pay a return visit to some of their most ardent fans."
