Plans for old Swanbourne Hospital being developed
3/5/02
Two organisations have until June 17 to submit detailed development proposals for the old Swanbourne Hospital site in Mount Claremont, Housing and Works Minister Tom Stephens said today.
Montgomery Arch Developments Pty Ltd and the Old Swanbourne Consortium were short-listed from six expressions of interest to develop detailed plans for the 2.5-hectare site.
Mr Stephens said their initial submissions outlined plans for residential and community uses.
A third submission was short-listed but the organisation had since indicated it did not intend to proceed with its application.
The Minister said the Government was seeking to preserve the site's heritage, while giving the old hospital a new lease of life.
"We are now waiting to receive more detailed proposals from the short-listed applicants and I am hopeful they will be able to restore the old hospital to its former grandeur," he said.
Mr Stephens said the hospital has been closed for 15 years and there was now the opportunity to make better use of a Government asset for the benefit of all Western Australians.
