Premier announces new residential aged care facility for Collie
6/10/04
Premier Geoff Gallop today announced that a new 64-bed residential aged care facility would be built in Collie.
The State Government would contribute $2.5million towards the $6.65million purpose-built facility, to be constructed in the grounds of Collie District Hospital.
The new facility would replace Collie's existing aged care facilities at Riverview and Hillview, the permanent care unit at the hospital.
"The new aged care facility will ensure that for the first time all aged care residents in Collie will be able to receive first-rate care under the same roof," Dr Gallop said.
"It will be a modern facility, with a home-style atmosphere, and a great asset for the Collie community."
In addition to providing $2.5million towards the new aged care facility, the State Government will provide land excised from the Collie District Hospital site.
The Federal Government has provided $2.55million, and Riverview Residence $1.6million, towards the new facility.
"This is a great example of political co-operation and community partnerships at work," the Premier said.
"In particular, I commend local MP Mick Murray for the work he has done to secure funding for this great new facility.
"Mick was instrumental in bringing together the key players of Health Minister Jim McGinty, Federal Member for Forrest Geoff Prosser, and Minister for the Ageing Julie Bishop."
Dr Gallop said construction on the new facility would start next year and be completed in 2007. It was expected to be fully occupied when it opened.
