Premier Geoff Gallop has officially transferred ownership of the Ormsby Terrace community health facility to the City of Mandurah.
Dr Gallop said that vesting the building in the city, so that it could eventually be used by local groups, represented the delivery of an important election commitment.
"Mandurah is a rapidly growing city and it relies heavily upon the dedication and hard work of its many community organisations," he said.
"The Government recognises the important contribution that these groups make to the city and the region's community life.
"That's why at the last election we promised to provide them with this additional space in the civic precinct.
"This contrasts with the previous government, which considered selling the community health buildings."
The transfer of ownership of the Ormsby Terrace community health facility was formalised at the official opening of the new Mandurah City Council chambers.
Here, Dr Gallop and City of Mandurah Mayor Keith Holmes signed a Memorandum of Understanding guaranteeing that the community health services currently being delivered from the Ormsby Terrace building would continue to be accommodated.
The agreement will apply for a minimum of three years, with a one-year option for renewal - or until a new community health facility is built in Mandurah.
The construction of a new facility is another of the Government's election commitments to Mandurah and the Peel region.
Dr Gallop said that under the MOU, some health services would continue to be delivered from the Ormsby Terrace facility - even after new health community facilities were built.
"Ormsby Terrace is centrally located in Mandurah and therefore easily accessed, so it makes sense that some health services will continue to be delivered from this site," he said.
