Great Southern Minister Kim Chance today announced the appointment of Jon Bettink as project manager for the planning and consultation phase of the $12.7million Albany Boat Harbour.
Mr Chance said he was delighted with the appointment of Mr Bettink, who had been the director of Technical Services at the Shire of Busselton for the past nine years.
"Mr Bettink brings wide-ranging skills to the position, having been involved in such projects as the Busselton jetty restoration, the Port Geographe Marina and townscape developments at Busselton and Dunsborough," the Minister said.
"More importantly, he brings a proven ability to communicate with communities on development projects and has an impressive reputation as an open and consultative person."
Mr Chance said community consultation was a key part of the Albany Boat Harbour development process and the appointment of Mr Bettink would ensure the Albany community was fully engaged in the project.
Mr Bettink will manage the planning and consultation phases of the harbour development, which includes developing the concept plan and land use structure; environmental and engineering assessments and detailed public consultation.
It is envisaged this phase of the project will take about 18 months.
Mr Bettink will be located at the Great Southern Development Commission and report to the Management Steering Committee, comprising the commission, City of Albany and the Department for Planning and Infrastructure.
"This unique partnership between State and local government ensures that the various skills and resources of each of the agencies are available to Mr Bettink," the Minister said.
The steering committee is currently collating existing marine and land based data and establishing a community reference group structure which directly reports to the Albany City Council.
Mr Bettink, who is already familiar with Albany through family connections, will be moving to live in Albany and take up his appointment in July.
