Project will promote local business in the Goldfields-Esperance region
7/3/02
A new project to promote local businesses in the Goldfields-Esperance has been launched. Goldfields-Esperance Minister Nick Griffiths said a directory of 1,300 businesses in the region had been distributed throughout the region.
Mr Griffiths said the Industry Development Centre had produced 1,000 copies of the Local Project Suppliers Directory.
"The State Government recognises the importance of buying goods and services locally in the region, and the need to attract industry and investment from outside the region," he said.
"This project will promote local businesses and encourage people to buy locally where possible, keeping money and jobs in the region."
Mr Griffiths said the directory was available on CDROM and contained local and regional project suppliers' details.
"The directory represents about a third of all businesses throughout the region and 60 business groups, industry associations and Government agencies connected with the region," he said.
"It includes a half-page description for each supplier on ownership, structure, management, contact details, main products and services and other helpful information, so that people are able to identify exactly the type of service they need and where they can go to find it.
"This information will be helpful for mining companies, engineering, construction and related businesses, Government, bankers, investors and developers as a helpful reference guide."
Mr Griffiths said the CDROM would link people to the Industry Development Centre website http://www.idcgold.org.au that would provide updated information and in turn have links to other relevant websites, including the Government Electronic Market (GEM).
