Tourism Minister Clive Brown today congratulated organisers of the Hyundai Hopman Cup XV on an outstanding tournament.
Mr Brown said that the eight-day event, which concluded today, was a successful beginning to a strong year of local events in 2003.

"The Hyundai Hopman Cup continues to grow from strength to strength, this year attracting two world number one tennis players for the first time in the tournament's history," he said.
This year's event saw a record crowd of more than 80,000 people attend the Hopman Cup surpassing last year's total by more than 2,000.
"The incredible success of this year's Hyundai Hopman Cup has given us a fantastic start to a year of events in 2003.
"I would like to congratulate Paul McNamee, the Hopman Cup organisers, the International Tennis Federation, volunteers and sponsors who made this event so successful."
The Hyundai Hopman Cup is part of the 2003 Best on Earth in Perth event calendar and is supported by the State Government through EventsCorp.
"Tomorrow the Australian Criterium (Cycling) Championships will be held in the streets of Joondalup and the Johnnie Walker Classic is now only weeks away, with a strong line-up of international golfers scheduled to compete at the Lake Karrinyup Country Club from February 13-16," Mr Brown said.
Highlights of events to come in the Best on Earth in Perth 2003 program include five games in the Rugby World Cup at Subiaco Oval in October, including a headline match between South Africa and England.
Other international events part of the Best on Earth in Perth 2003 calendar include the Perth International Arts Festival (January 16 - February 16), the Leeuwin Estate Concert (March 8-9), the ISSF Clay Target Shooting World Cup (March 6-16), the Salomon Masters @ Margaret River (April 7-13), UCI BMX World Championships (July 19-27), Telstra Rally Australia (September 5-7), and the Perth International Golf Tournament (November 14-17).
