A new primary school is to be constructed on the site of the existing East Maylands Primary School with the project currently at tender.
Housing and Works Minister Tom Stephens said tenders would close on February 19.
"The redeveloped school will be the result of the amalgamation of the existing East Maylands and Maylands primary schools," Mr Stephens said.
"The school will have access to the adjacent Gibney Reserve under a joint use agreement between the Department of Education and Training and the City of Bayswater.
"Both schools will continue to operate on their existing sites until the new school is ready for occupation."
The school is one of several schools to be newly built or redeveloped in readiness for the start of the 2004 school year.
The project consists of six separate buildings and will incorporate the following facilities:

  • 13 general classrooms
  • 3 pre-primary classrooms
  • art and craft room
  • music room
  • covered assembly area and canteen
  • library resource area
  • administration and staff room.
Ground developments include landscaped courtyards, car parking and hard courts.
The total estimated cost is $5.3million. The new school is scheduled for completion by mid-December.
