Refurbished homes for sale in Narrogin
20/06/05
Three recently renovated west Narrogin homes have been put up for sale.
The move follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding which will see the Department of Housing and Works and the Narrogin Town Council become partners in an ambitious New Living project.
Housing and Works Minister Francis Logan said the project would take three years to complete and aimed to refurbish 54 Homeswest properties in the west Narrogin area.
Mr Logan said about 24 of the dwellings would be sold and the remainder would be retained as rental accommodation.
"The council is recognised as an important partner in the project and will play a vital role in achieving desired outcomes in the community," he said.
The Minister said the project was another example of the Gallop Government's commitment to regional Western Australia.
The three former Homeswest homes which are currently up for sale can be purchased through Ray White Narrogin.
They have been fully refurbished throughout, with extensive works including new kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, painting throughout, carports and landscaping, all completed by local contractors.
Three other properties in west Narrogin are currently being refurbished to allow them to be re-let to DHW tenants.
New Living is the State's biggest urban renewal program, with eight major projects in the metropolitan area and nine projects in country regions.
Apart from improving infrastructure, amenities, streetscapes and living standards, a key element of the program is to make public housing indistinguishable from private housing developments. This removes the social stigma formerly attached to public housing, while enhancing DHW's assets.
West Narrogin will not be the only community to benefit from the department's asset management programs. The DHW is almost one year into the previously announced Regional Upgrade Strategy.
This strategy will run over four years and target properties between 30 and 50 years old that are in poor condition, have amenity levels below acceptable standards or do not match the type of housing that is now required by Homeswest tenants and applicants.
