Regional Tourism Organisations up and running across the State
31/12/03
All five of Western Australia's new tourism regions have established Regional Tourism Organisations that will market their regions within the State.
Tourism Minister Bob Kucera said incorporation of the Regional Tourism Organisations was a significant landmark in the transition process from 10 tourism regions to five.
"The tourism boundaries in WA were realigned to streamline and improve the marketing of WA to the world," Mr Kucera said.
"The changes have been significant for the tourism industry and I would like to acknowledge the efforts and commitment of all those involved in the regional steering committees that have overseen the transition.
"The five regions, dubbed red, green, orange, gold and blue during the transition phase, now have constitutions, board and management structures, and are working on business and trading names and regional branding."
Red region (Kimberley and Pilbara), has been incorporated as Tourism North-West and will be chaired by Ian Laurence.
Green region (South-West and Great Southern) will be chaired by Clive Nelthorpe, Principal of Clive Nelthorpe and Associates.
Orange region (Perth, Peel and parts of the Heartlands) will be chaired by Peel-based consultant, Vern Goff.
Gold region (Goldfields, Esperance and parts of the Gascoyne and Mid-West) will be chaired by Jon Jessop, Owner/Operator of the Jetty Motel, Esperance.
Blue region (Coastal areas of the Gascoyne, Mid-West) will be chaired by Shire of Greenough Councillor Margaret Rowe.
"All the Regional Tourism Organisations have opted for board structures with a mix of elected representative members and members co-opted for their particular skills and expertise," Mr Kucera said.
"I think the structures that are in place will provide a sound basis for regional tourism in the future.
"The Regional Tourism Organisations will also work closely with the Western Australian Tourism Commission and the industry itself to market WA to the rest of the country, and the world."
