Results of Lotteries funding seen at new centre in Geraldton

Racing and Gaming Minister Nick Griffiths today visited one of the many organisations in the Mid-West region which have benefited with grants from the Lottery money.
He said that during the past two years, nearly $1.5 million in total grants had been given on behalf of the Lotteries Commission to the Mid-West region.
"The Lotteries Commission has provided funding for programs involving young people, people with disabilities, Aboriginal people, seniors and children and other community projects in the Mid-West region," Mr Griffiths said.
The Minister met with Mr Stuart Dawson, Branch Manager of the WA Policy and Citizens Youth Clubs (PCYC) in Geraldton. The organisation provides a range of recreational and educational activities for young people, including a drug awareness program for young people.
Geraldton PCYC has been the recipient of several Lotteries grants over the past three years totalling nearly $350,000. The funding was put towards the cost of completing their new facilities.
"The result of Lotteries funding is evident today at the Geraldton PCYC," Mr Griffiths said.
"The grants meant Geraldton PCYC could replace an old and inefficient centre and provide a range of new, leading edge activities for young people in the Mid-West region.
"I have been impressed by the range and quality of services offered by PCYC. It is pleasing to see Lottery money being put back into the community where it is most needed."
Mr Griffiths also encouraged other organisations in the region to find out about the availability of Lotteries Commission grants. Information on criteria and the grants process can be found at http://www.lottery.wa.gov.au
