River foreshore rehabilitation project completed at South Perth

Work has now finished on the third rehabilitation project along the Swan and Canning Rivers, under the State Government's $500,000 program to restore river foreshores.
Environment and Heritage Minister Dr Judy Edwards said the State Government had provided a grant of $6,200 to a local project to restore part of the South Perth foreshore.
Local school children will today help complete the project - by cleaning up the foreshore area as part of a national Clean Up day for primary schools.
"The project, initiated by local council officers and Swan River Trust, was targeted at restoring the beach downstream of the Mend's Street Jetty," Dr Edwards said.
"Sections of broken walling, limestone and rubble were removed and sand added to restore the beach.
"I am delighted that so many local governments with river frontages have shown such commitment to working in partnership with the Trust in restoring and maintaining the rivers' shorelines."
Dr Edwards said under the program, works included reconstruction of shoreline walls, stabilisation of shorelines using rock and replanting of reeds.
"This latest project follows restoration work already completed on East Fremantle and Mosman Park river foreshores," she said.
The scheme, an election commitment of the State Government, is anticipated to fund more than a dozen initiatives along the Swan and Canning Rivers, with local councils matching funding for the individual projects.
