Rockingham Road/Russell Road intersection to be upgraded next year
18/12/02
Major improvements to the intersection of Rockingham and Russell Roads in Cockburn would reduce crash rates and greatly improve safety for all road users, Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said today.
"Traffic lights will be installed at both of the staggered T-junctions at the Rockingham Road/Russell Road intersection and there will be an upgrade of Russell Road between Cockburn Road and Rockingham Road," Ms MacTiernan said.
She said Pavement Technology Limited would carry out $1.57million in works between February and May next year.
The project would also involve improving roadway lighting, creating turning pockets and widening the intersections.
"There have been 34 crashes at the Rockingham/Russell Roads intersections in the past five years and 17 of these were vehicles hitting at right angles," the Minister said.
"This project will greatly reduce the potential for these types of crashes."
Ms MacTiernan said the project would assist ongoing development within the Henderson industrial area.
