Perth's secondary students have an action-packed school holiday in store with the State Government announcing funding for a range of holiday activities.
Community Development Minister Sheila McHale today said funding totalling $18,750 would allow 18 community groups and local governments to offer youth development holiday programs.
"Abseiling, go-karting and arts and crafts are just some of the activities secondary students can enjoy when the holidays kick off on July 2," Ms McHale said.
The Minister said other activities would include:

  • a six-day 'Get wRECt' program incorporating bush-walking, archery, Supa Golf, ice-skating, ten pin bowling, Internet gaming, art workshops and theatre sports, offered by the City of Gosnells;
  • a five-day adventure camp incorporating abseiling, archery, laser-combat, canoeing, four-wheel driving, crate-climbing, horse-riding, ten pin bowling, offered by Christian Youth Camps (WA) Rockingham; and
  • a three-day activity program for young people with a vision disability at Challenge Stadium, recreation centres, radio stations and parks, offered by the Association for the Blind of WA.
Ms McHale said the youth development programs were an excellent way to keep young people entertained during the holidays and provide exciting new experiences.
"The activities are excellent opportunities for teenagers to improve their self esteem and develop a range of skills to equip them for the future," she said.
"The Gallop Government is improving the quality of services for all Western Australians."
