Shaken baby allegations unfounded but investigations continue at Kid's Cove

Community Development Minister Sheila McHale today said that allegations a six-month-old baby was shaken at a Mandurah child care centre had not been substantiated.
However, a number of other concerns about the centre were still being investigated.
"The allegation made by Barbara Scott in Parliament that a six-month-old baby was shaken was completely unfounded," Ms McHale said.
"There is absolutely no substance to the allegation that there was a shaken baby at the centre."
The Minister said the inquiry also found insufficient evidence to support additional claims the owner had grabbed the arm of a child.
"There are a number of matters that are still being investigated," she said.
"Parents have a right to quality child care.
"The concerns of parents and staff are genuine and are being investigated."
Ms McHale also said assertions made by the Opposition that the Child Care Licensing Unit was being wound down were incorrect.
"The unit is being strengthened," she said.
"Additional resources have been provided for the unit and its role and function are being strengthened.
"This has involved creating new management structures, the development of new licensing procedures and documentation, increased staffing levels and training of staff."
