Wheatbelt Minister Kim Chance officially opened a new multi-purpose health centre in Wundowie today.
The new facility will cater for the health needs of people living in the western sector of the Shire of Northam - specifically the communities of Wundowie, Clackline, Bakers Hill and Wooroloo.
The Department of Health, through the Avon Health Service, spent $437,000 on establishing the new facility.
It offers community health, physiotherapy, podiatry, occupational therapy, mental health and allied health services.
"The Shire of Northam also made a major contribution for the land acquisition, associated site works and landscaping costs," Mr Chance said.
"The Avon Health Service is currently negotiating with the Commonwealth Department of Health to secure funding to provide additional services."
Mr Chance said the new facility provided accommodation for general practitioners and community health and allied health practitioners in a comfortable home-style environment for patients and staff.
It also incorporated a child health centre, a room for dentistry and podiatry, two doctors consulting rooms and a well-appointed physiotherapy area.
"This project demonstrates the benefits of the community working with the Avon Health Service to identify health needs and to co-operatively seek solutions," the Minister said.
"The provision of the Wundowie Health Centre demonstrates the State Government's intention to provide care and health services closer to home for Western Australians."
