The new one-stop-shop for Western Australians to appeal against decisions made by Government and industry boards is ready to open its doors with the appointment of 12 full-time and more than 100 sessional members the State Administrative Tribunal.
Attorney General Jim McGinty said the SAT would provide a cohesive new jurisdiction for the resolution of a wide range of disputes and appeals.
"It will cover everything from an appeal in a complex State revenue matter involving millions of dollars through to a decision about whether a dangerous dog should be put down," Mr McGinty said.
SAT will also take over the disciplinary functions of dozens of self-regulated trades and professions, including doctors, lawyers, architects, nurses, motor vehicle dealers, plumbers, finance brokers and real estate agents.
The following people will take up their appointments from January 1, 2005:
SENIOR MEMBERS:
Ms Jill Toohey - was admitted to practice law in 1981 and has wide public sector and tribunal experience and currently works for the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Mr David Parry - qualified in law in 1990 and as a barrister in Sydney practices in environmental, planning and local government law.
Mr Clive Raymond - first qualified in law in South Africa in 1976. He is an experienced arbitrator and mediator and is currently principal of his own law firm and Deputy Chairman of the Building Disputes Tribunal.
Mr Murray Allen - has also been appointed as President of the Mental Health Review Board. He has qualifications in law and business, was previously the State Ombudsman and has been a part-time member of the Australian Administrative Tribunal.
ORDINARY MEMBERS
Ms Felicity Child - has qualifications in social work and law. She is currently a full time member of the Guardianship and Administration Board.
Mr Jack Mansveld - has qualifications in both social work and accounting. He currently works in the Office of the Public Advocate.
Ms Donna Dean - has qualifications in social work and law. She is currently working for the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) in NSW.
Ms Belinda Moharich - has qualifications in planning and law. She is currently Principal Registrar and Senior Member of the Town Planning Appeals Tribunal.
Ms Marie Connor - has qualifications in planning. She is currently Manager of Planning Services at the Town of Victoria Park.
Mr Peter McNab - has qualifications in law. He is currently practising at the Independent Bar in Darwin.
Dr Bertus De Villiers - has doctorate qualifications in law from South Africa. He is currently the Manager of Native Title and Legal Section of the Goldfields Land and Sea Councils.
Mr Maurice Spillane - has qualifications in law and has experience in planning, medical law and indemnity issues. He is currently a practising lawyer in Perth.
Mr Tim Carey - has both law and commerce qualifications. He is currently a senior lawyer with the Australian Government Solicitor.
Mr McGinty said more sessional appointments would follow in the New Year.
The Tribunal is due to commence on January 1, 2005.
