State Development Minister Clive Brown today announced that $500,000 had been set aside in the State Budget for improved security at the Kalgoorlie Explosives Reserve.
"The Kalgoorlie Explosives Reserve is used to manufacture and store explosives and is therefore a vital infrastructure component of the State's mining industry," Mr Brown said.
"With the need for heightened safety awareness generated by recent world events, it is important we ensure this facility has a high level of security.
"The Government will commit $500,000 to fund additional security measures at the Kalgoorlie Explosives Reserve."
Mr Brown said the funds would pay for the upgrade of existing security, including new closed-circuit television monitoring of the reserve.
"In addition, we will be improving the security fencing around the 78ha site and installing a monitored alarm system," he said.
The Kalgoorlie Explosives Reserve is important to the mining, exploration and construction industries as a place to safely manufacture and store explosives.
The Department of Industry and Resources administers explosives and dangerous goods legislation in Western Australia.
