The State Government has appointed Mr Peter Holland to the Lotteries Commission of Western Australia, effective from tomorrow (March 26).
Government Enterprises Minister Nick Griffiths said Mr Holland would make an excellent addition to the board of the Lotteries Commission, given his experience and role in the community.
The Minister said Mr Holland had worked in television, radio and the arts for over 40 years, held a number of voluntary community positions and had been recognised for his commitment to the community.
"Over the years, Peter Holland has been an energetic and committed member of the community, serving various organisations in a volunteer and official capacity," he said.
"His work spans a variety of volunteer groups supporting families and their children, supporting people with disabilities, tackling drug abuse and promoting music and the arts.
"He has been recognised for his work in the community with a series of awards and in 1995 was named WA Citizen of the Year.
"Throughout his years as a media presenter, Peter Holland has continued to devote time to different causes throughout WA."
Mr Griffiths said because of his work in the community, Mr Holland was an ideal candidate for the role as a member of the board of the Lotteries Commission.
"All profits from the sale of lottery games are returned to the WA community in various ways," he said.
"Hospitals, arts, sporting organisations and hundreds of community-based groups which provide valuable support for children and families, are recipients of Lotteries grants.
"Mr Holland will provide a valuable insight into community service organisations and some of the issues that lotteries grants aim to support."
Peter Holland is currently employed by STW Channel Nine. He holds various awards and honours including WA Citizen of the Year, 1995, WA Premier's Book Award 1994, Volunteering WA Media Award 1998 and the Spastic Welfare Association of Western Australia Appreciation Award 1986.
He currently holds a number of voluntary community positions including President of Save the Children WA, Patron of Canteen WA and Vice Patron of the Royal WA Institute for the Blind.
