Four community conservation projects in the Peel region have been awarded grants under the State Government's Community Conservation Grants Scheme.
Environment and Heritage Minister Dr Judy Edwards said $196,000 in grants had been awarded to 64 community groups and individuals to fund a range of local conservation projects.
The grants in the Peel region were awarded to:

  • Southern Estuary Progress Association - $4,500 for stage three of the Harvey Estuary Western Foreshore Rehabilitation Program in Dawesville;
  • Lake Clifton Progress and Sporting Association - $1,775 to assist with Tuart re-forestation in Lake Clifton; and
  • Two fauna care projects in Mandurah - $400 each.
Dr Edwards said the grants scheme reflected the State Government's commitment to build partnerships with the community to conserve the environment.
"To ensure we work effectively to protect and rehabilitate our natural surroundings, Government and local groups must work hand-in-hand," she said.
"The grants scheme presents Government with a unique opportunity to support community-based conservation projects - which are well tuned to the needs of their local environment.
"The grants assist organisations and individuals to continue with projects that conserve public lands and buy resources and rehabilitation equipment."
The applications were assessed in three categories by a panel that included representatives from the Department of Conservation and Land Management and Department of Environment, Water and Catchment Protection.
