The Western Australian Government has provided $3.05million towards the planning and construction of a $4.5million multi-purpose recreation centre at Eaton.
The Education Department provided a grant of $2.5million, the Department of Sport and Recreation provided $500,000 (through a Community Sport and Recreation Facility Fund grant) and Lotterywest provided $250,000.
The balance of the money has been raised by the Shire of Dardanup.
Officially opening the Eaton Recreation Centre today, Premier Geoff Gallop said the completion of the centre was an example of how Government could work in partnership with local government, the business sector and local community to provide the best facilities.
"The Shire of Dardanup has maximised the potential of the recreation centre by working in partnership with the Eaton Community College," Dr Gallop said.
"The college now has full access to a recreation centre that provides quality facilities for netball, basketball, tennis, badminton and volleyball as well as a gymnasium.
"The combination of school and community use will ensure this centre is fully utilised to the benefit of the whole community - without it becoming a financial burden.
"I commend the shire, as well as a range of businesses and mining companies in the area, for contributing to this successful outcome."
The Premier said the Gallop Government was committed to developing active and healthy communities in Western Australia.
"The Shire of Dardanup is one of the fastest growing regions in the State - so by supporting this new recreation facility we are catering for the needs of the future," he said.
