State Government gives local tourism a funding boost - Fremantle
27/05/03
Tourism in the Fremantle area will benefit from a $5,500 funding boost to Fremantle First, as part of the State Government's Metropolitan Visitor Centre Sustainability and Enhancement Scheme (MVCSES).
Ken Travers, Parliamentary Secretary to Tourism Minister Clive Brown, today announced Fremantle First had successfully applied for funding through the scheme, which was aimed at improving the long-term sustainability of visitor centres in metropolitan WA.
"Through this project, the State Government is fulfilling its election promise to provide $80,000 over two years to metropolitan visitor centres," Mr Travers said.
"These centres offer an important service by providing tourists with information and ideas to get the most out of their visit."
Under the scheme, visitor centres are able to apply for up to $10,000 (plus GST), which they match dollar-for-dollar. Fremantle First will use its grant to implement a visitor research project.
