State Government hostels report released for public comment
11/7/01
Community Development Minister Sheila McHale has released for public comment a review of the State's accommodation hostels for children and young people.
The report was written by the Department for Community Development (formerly Family and Children's Services) at the request of Ms McHale in March. The review covers DCD's metropolitan and country hostel system for troubled young people.
"The report contains a number of proposals for the future development of services for the care of young people and ways in which the community can be involved," Ms McHale said.
"The report also makes recommendations on the role of other Government and non-Government agencies working in partnership with the Department for Community Development to assist a number of troubled young people, many of whom have been physically, sexually or emotionally abused or neglected.
"I would urge all interested people to review the report and provide their feedback to the Department for Community Development."
The Accommodation Hostels Report is available by accessing the department's website on http://www.fcs.wa.gov.au for an online copy or by contacting the Department for Community Development on (08) 9222 2555.
Comments should be sent to Lex McCulloch, Metropolitan Services Division of the Department for Community Development, 1275 Albany Highway, Cannington 6107.
The deadline for comment is Friday, August 3.
