The State Government today announced a $613,000 capital works program to improve visitor facilities and access in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park on the State's lower South-West coast.
Environment and Heritage Minister Dr Judy Edwards said the improvements would assist in managing the impacts of the increasing number of visitors to the park.
"The new works will add to the overall visitor experience for people touring the area between Busselton and Augusta," Dr Edwards said.
"This enhancement is part of the State Government's commitment to regional tourism - as well as ensuring access to our parks is an environmentally sensitive manner."

The key works include:

  • Canal Rocks - $145,000 for the completion of the boat ramp redevelopment, a new toilet block and pedestrian pathways;
  • Lefthanders - $30,000 for a stairway and boardwalk to improve access to the coast;
  • Big Rock - $95,000 for a new sealed carpark;
  • Contos - $275,000 for the upgrading and sealing one km of Contos Road and developments at Contos Campground;
  • Hamelin Bay - $50,000 for a new toilet block; and
  • Calgardup Cave - $18,000 towards upgrading of access and visitor facilities.
Dr Edwards said contracts for most of the projects had been let and work was due to be completed by mid-year.
The works are being funded by the State Government through the Department of Conservation and Land Management and Main Roads WA.
