For the first time, all State Government job vacancies will be advertised online, providing 24-hour, seven days a week access to jobseekers.
Minister Assisting the Minister for Public Sector Management John Kobelke said the Internet-based job board, http://www.jobs.wa.gov.au, would become the Government's primary recruitment tool.
"The State Government is Western Australia's biggest single employer with almost 100,000 employees," Mr Kobelke said.
"The new Western Australian Government Job Board will provide a central location for all agencies and departments to advertise their vacancies."
Benefits include:

  • significant savings to taxpayers through more efficient advertising;
  • increased information about individual job vacancies;
  • capability for daily postings of jobs and 24-hour, seven days a week access;
  • ability to search a range of criteria such as Occupation, Salary Range, Location/Region, Agency, Work Type, Level, Position Number and Key Words;
  • streamlining the redeployment clearance process;
  • access to online job application packages; and
  • submission of online applications.
WA software services company Empired Limited has been contracted to implement and manage the website.
While the online job board has no association or links with other commercial job boards, the website will have links to other specialist career opportunities in Government including teaching, nursing and health.
Mr Kobelke said under the changes, vacancies would no longer be advertised in the public sector magazine, Intersector.
"By advertising jobs at a central location accessible to both the general public and existing employees, we are breaking down the perception that Government is a closed shop where only public servants are considered for new jobs," he said.
"WA already has one of the highest percentage of Internet users in Australia and this will only increase.
"Apart from home access, the Internet is available at hundreds of libraries, telecentres and net cafes across the State.
"Revised recruitment advertisements in print media will provide a contact number where job application packs can still be mailed out.
"The Gallop Government is committed to keeping pace with the online revolution."
An advertising campaign will be launched this month promoting the new website and highlighting the exciting range of jobs on offer within the WA public sector.
http://www.jobs.wa.gov.au is on line now.
