State Government launches new guide to concessions
7/08/02
Western Australians can take advantage of more than $340million worth of concessions provided each year by the State Government.
A new guide to State Government Concessions, launched today by Community Development Minister Sheila McHale, will help Western Australians cut the costs of their bills.
"Each year the Government of WA offers social concessions across a wide range of services," Ms McHale said.
"I encourage people to check their entitlements as they may be eligible for concessions on many services including local government rates, motor driver's licences, dental treatment and even admission to the Perth Zoo."
Eligibility for concessions is based on income, age, service to the community or country, and the special needs of individuals and families.
"Providing concessions in the form of rebates, discounts and waivers helps to improve the quality of life for eligible people by increasing the affordability of services," she said.
"It is a reflection of the Gallop Government's strong commitment to the social wellbeing of all Western Australians."
The guide will be distributed through The West Magazine on Saturday August 10, 2002 making it available to approximately 400,000 households. It is also available on the Internet at http://www.communitydevelopment.wa.gov.au
The guide outlines concessions for holders of Health Care Cards, Pensioner Concession Cards, Seniors Cards, State Concession Cards, as well as Totally and Permanently Incapacitated Pensioners and War Widows.
