The Busselton Jetty Underwater Observatory has been allocated $50,000 toward a campaign to market the attraction as a major Western Australian tourism icon.
The funding is part of the WA Rural and Regional Marketing Assistance Scheme - a State Government election commitment of $2million over four years to support regional tourism.
Premier Geoff Gallop said today that the underwater observatory project was one of the most impressive applications received.
"Additional funding for the project has already been secured and the submission confirms the applicants' clear commitment to positioning the underwater observatory as a major tourism icon for WA," Dr Gallop said.
"The observatory has the potential to become one of the State's premier nature-based tourism attractions.
"When completed, the jetty and underwater observatory will allow people who have never dived or snorkelled to appreciate the abundant marine life found below the structure."
The group managing the project is the Busselton Jetty Environmental and Conservation Association.

Tourism Minister Clive Brown said marketing the attraction would help to encourage domestic and international visitors to make the journey to Busselton when they came to WA.
"More visitors to Busselton would also increase spending in the South-West, generating income and jobs for the local community," Mr Brown said
He said all successful applicants were required to secure additional funding from industry and other stakeholders.
