New state-of-the-art facilities at Western Australia's largest egg processor will ensure advanced production of finest quality fresh eggs from the farm to the family.
Agriculture Minister Kim Chance today opened new cool room and grading floor facilities at the Golden Egg Farms facility in Palmyra.
"The new technology will increase the efficiency and capacity of the operation and take Golden Egg Farms and WA into a new era of egg processing," Mr Chance said.
Golden Egg Farms, which was established in 1946 and is now the largest processor of eggs and egg products in WA, supplies local, interstate and overseas customers.
It is also Australia's largest exporter of liquid egg products to overseas markets including Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai, Hong Kong and the Philippines.
"Market developments at the national level are impacting on all operators and this major investment by Golden Egg Farms is a response to the rapid change occurring in the industry," the Minister said.
"The upgrades to the grading floor and coolroom will ensure that Golden Egg Farms operates at world's best practice."
The Palmyra facility currently processes more than one million eggs per day, as well as frozen whole liquid egg, frozen egg yolk and frozen egg whites.
The new computer-driven egg-grading machine is capable of grading 150,000 eggs per hour. It also incorporates an automatic crack detector that rejects any cracked, broken or second grade eggs.
The new coolroom facility utilises a modern computerised inventory control system to ensure the stock is managed to the highest possible standards.
It will also incorporate dock levelling devices and direct loading to vehicles, which will provide for better temperature control as well as more efficient loading of products.
"These new facilities will ensure that WA families and businesses will continue to be supplied with the best quality and freshest eggs for many years to come," Mr Chance said.
"At the same time the improvements will position Golden Egg Farms to take advantage of the further great opportunities for egg product exports opening up in the Middle East and Asia."
