State Development Minister Clive Brown has welcomed the establishment of an Optus National Account Management and Sales Centre in Western Australia, which will create up to 30 new jobs for the State.
The announcement follows recent efforts by Mr Brown, in conjunction with the Department of Industry and Technology and Mr Richard Thorning, general manager Western Australia for Optus, to have the centre located in WA.
Mr Brown said he was keen to advance the State as an attractive investment opportunity for the telecommunications industry.
"This is an encouraging step towards future telecommunications investment in WA," he said.
Mr Brown had also recently met with SingTel in Singapore to discuss potential opportunities and Singtel's future plans for Optus.
"SingTel has some exciting projects under consideration with the potential to provide major benefits to WA, particularly regional WA," he said.
Mr Thorning said the new centre illustrated Optus' continued commitment to WA.
"Our investment in people and resources in WA demonstrates our ongoing support for business customers locally, as well as nationwide," he said.
The centre, based in West Perth, should be fully operational by the end of May and will provide relationship management services to Optus Business enterprise customers.
