Timber industry leader Ron Adams honoured

Western Australian timber industry leader Ron Adams was last night announced the winner of the Premier's Award at the 2003 Timber Industry Awards.
Forestry Minister Kim Chance said Mr Adams, the Managing Director of Sotico Pty Ltd, had made an outstanding contribution to the timber industry and the community.
"His passion and unselfish leadership qualities have brought about industry development, resource security and sustainability in forestry management at both State and Federal levels," Mr Chance said.
The Minister made the presentation at the Forest Industry Federation of WA's annual dinner and timber industry awards night.
"During a time of major restructuring of the industry, Mr Adams has taken an energetic and enthusiastic view to bring about regional development and resource security for local manufacturers and their international and national clients, as well as developing partnerships with furniture manufacturers," Mr Chance said.
"Integral to the vision being developed by Mr Adams is a master plan for a Manjimup Industrial Park which it is expected will allow an integrated approach and create an effective product and process flow from logs to finished product."
The Timber Industry Awards were introduced last year and acknowledge and reward those who have made an outstanding contribution to the industry or shown excellence and innovation in the use of WA's timber resource.
About 50 nominations were received for the nine categories of the awards which were introduced for the first time last year.

Outstanding Contribution to community: Peter Gunson.
