Time to book a Winter Break!
3/5/03
Tourism Minister Clive Brown today encouraged all Western Australians to take a winter break over the next few months.
"Taking a winter break will not only give you a chance to relax and experience regional WA, it will also help the local tourism industry during a difficult time," Mr Brown said.
"While the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome and war in Iraq are impacting on international tourism globally, Western Australians holidaying at home can deliver benefits to the local industry.
"Western Australians choosing to holiday here at home injected about $1.7billion into the economy last financial year."
'Winter Breaks' is one of the most successful intrastate marketing initiatives and this year there are a record number of operators participating in the campaign.
This year for the first time there is a dedicated Winter Breaks website: http://www.winterbreaks.com.au where people can view holiday options and be connected to operators for bookings.
"Booking statistics over recent years indicate that the Winter Breaks campaign is worth more than $3million annually to the tourism industry," Mr Brown said.
"Accommodation properties advertising in the brochure generally report strong bookings during the traditionally quiet winter months as a direct result of their participation in the campaign."
The Winter Breaks brochure and website contain details on 278 tourism operators, including accommodation and hire cars, across a number of regions, all within easy reach of Perth.
The brochure and website will be supported by several months of press, radio and metropolitan outdoor advertising.
The 56-page Winter Breaks brochure will be distributed in The West Australian on Saturday, May 3, and will be available online at http://www.winterbreaks.com.au
