More than 700 lecturers, teachers and trainers from TAFEWA colleges, schools and the private sector have been congratulated at the opening of the 'Training Forum 2003 - Delivering the Goods through Good Delivery', at Burswood International Resort today.
Officially opening the two-day forum, Education and Training Minister Alan Carpenter thanked the lecturers and trainers for their vital contribution to the vocational education and training (VET) sector in Western Australia.
"The Gallop Government is committed to enhancing the status of teachers and forums such as these will ensure we can continuously improve quality in teaching, learning and assessment in the VET system," he said.
The forum is being hosted by the Department of Education and Training and will showcase innovation and good practice in vocational education and training.
Mr Carpenter said the diverse range of organisations represented at the forum augured well for the underlying aim of the Government's recent move to amalgamate the departments of education and training.
"We aim to have the education and training sectors working together to meet the common goal of creating a better education and training system," he said.
"In the process, we will create a better future for our students, our industries and the community.
"Working in partnership will give every Western Australian access to high quality vocational education, training skills development and the opportunity for lifelong learning."
Mr Carpenter said education and training played a vital role in the State's economic development and in ensuring the social and economic viability of its communities.
"The modern era demands a highly-skilled and educated workforce so that Western Australians can take advantage of emerging jobs," he said.
"We are working across a range of sectors, including schools, TAFEWA, universities and industry to ensure we can position our VET system to meet those needs."
