Videos available to guide parents through child-rearing
25/2/02
A new edition of parenting videos will guide parents through their child's growing years from tantrums to teenage parties.
Community Development Minister Sheila McHale said the Living with. series of Western Australian videos, including babies, toddlers, children and teenagers supported parents in their role of caring for their child.
"With 25,000 babies born in Western Australia each year and more than 400,000 children and teenagers in our State, parents have their work cut out for them," Ms McHale said.
"The State Government has made a commitment to provide parents with the information and skills they need to make a positive difference to their child's health and well-being.
"These videos offer parents practical advice and information to guide them through their children's milestones."
The original concept of the Living with.series was developed in 1991 with the production of a small booklet called Living with teenagers.
Today the series runs to five videos with accompanying magazines - Living with babies, Living with toddlers, Living with children, Living with teenagers and Living with stepfamilies.
"These videos and magazines have proved both popular and effective in helping parents and others caring for children to develop their positive parenting skills," Ms McHale said.
"They have now been updated and revised, as a result of comprehensive research with parents, to include new information and make them more father focused."
The videos are available for borrowing from all local libraries across WA, as well as at the department's parenting information centres.
