Virgin to launch Broome direct flight
13/2/03
The State Government today congratulated Virgin Blue for introducing a new direct flight to Broome.
Ken Travers, Parliamentary Secretary to Tourism Minister Clive Brown, said Virgin Blue's plan to introduce the weekly direct Adelaide-to-Broome service from April 12, was a fantastic boost for Kimberley tourism.
"The Virgin Blue direct weekly flights will complement Qantas' twice weekly service from Melbourne, also due to start in April," Mr Travers said.
"These new services will allow thousands of Australians to experience the beauty of Broome and the Kimberley during the southern winter.
"More visitors to the Kimberley mean more jobs for locals, more regional development and increased viability for hundreds of small businesses.
"I would also like to congratulate the people involved in the tourism industry in Broome for their hard work in promoting this wonderful town to the rest of the country.
"Increased air access to regional Western Australia has been a priority for the Government. I would like to thank and congratulate Virgin Blue for their faith in the Kimberley tourism experience."
