WATC Board Chair steps down
31/08/01
Tourism Minister Clive Brown today announced that he had accepted the resignation of Mr Kevin Carton as chairman of the Western Australian Tourism Commission Board.
Mr Brown said Mr Carton had served on the board as chair for over six years but had indicated earlier this year that he wished to step down once it was felt the new Government had settled in.
"Mr Carton now feels that the transition period is over and has indicated to me that due to increased private business commitments it is time for him to go," the Minister said.
Mr Brown said Mr Carton, a former Australian Olympic hockey player and Australian hockey captain, had served the tourism and hospitality industry with commitment and dedication.
Prior to taking up his role on the board, Mr Carton spent 18 years in the State airline industry and worked with Sheraton Hotels, both nationally and internationally for many years.
He was, until retirement in 1990, the senior vice-president for ITT Asia-Pacific Corporation.
"During his stewardship, the WA Tourism Commission developed the highly successful Brand WA international and domestic market strategy and launched the WA Tourism Network," Mr Brown said.
He said he was sure the tourism industry joined him in wishing Mr Carton well for his future endeavours.
