Innovative solutions to tackling water efficiency and supply issues have been recognised as part of the Western Australia's bi-annual Water Industry Awards.
Environment and Heritage Minister Dr Judy Edwards said six organisations had been recognised for their excellent achievement in the water industry, including ongoing research and innovation.
"These awards recognise the development of those products or systems, which can help contribute to promote sustainable, long-term water resources for WA, including innovative water recycling and conservation initiatives," Dr Edwards said.
"Obviously, the development of such initiatives is paramount, given the ongoing water shortages that the State faces.
"The Government is also keen to foster similar types of initiatives in our own water conservation strategy, which is now being finalised following the Water Symposium."
Winner of the Minister's Award for Excellence was water treatment company AQ2 Pty Ltd for their SmartaflowTM Hypochlorinator.
"Seen as a genuine innovator in its field, the company has devised a new way of purifying water to drinking quality standards, which is particularly suited to treating small country water supplies, " Dr Edwards said.
"It is certainly a welcome addition to the State's growing reputation as a water innovator and the company hopes to market overseas."
