Waterwise Display Village program gathers momentum
16/4/04
The Waterwise Display Village concept has continued to gather momentum with another 11 display villages becoming signatories to the program this week.
The program, launched by the Water Corporation in conjunction with the land development industry, is aimed at promoting waterwise home and garden designs.
It was launched by Government Enterprises Minister Nick Griffiths in August last year and had been received enthusiastically by the development sector and building industry.
"The development industry's commitment to incorporating water efficient practices within our homes is not only great for conserving our water supplies but will also save us money in the long run," Mr Griffiths said.
The Satterley Property Group, Ardross Estates and Australand are the latest developers to sign on to participate in the Waterwise Display Village program. This means there will be nine Satterley display villages including Brighton and Brighton Beachside, The Grove at Ashby, Belvedere Hills, Dalyellup Beach, Secret Harbour, Beaumaris Beach, Warton Road, Southern River and Abbey Waters, plus the Ardross Estates Millbridge Display Village and Australand Kallista Gardens project, will be developed to waterwise standards.
The inclusion of all Satterley display villages currently under construction is of particular significance and highlights the ongoing commitment shown to the program by managing director Nigel Satterley.
"Mr Sattlerley has been a driving force in getting the building industry to incorporate water conservation into their building designs," Mr Griffiths said.
The participation of Ardross Estates Millbridge display village further strengthened regional presence by extending the program across the State.
Mr Griffiths said the Kallista Gardens Project in Wanneroo was unique as it promoted the waterwise concept throughout a grouped dwelling development.
Companies which participated in the program received a range of marketing and promotional support opportunities from the Water Corporation.
The Waterwise Display Village is part of a family of programs introduced by the Corporation which includes waterwise plumbers, waterwise irrigators and waterwise garden centres.
Eventually, the objective is that every new home built in Western Australia will be based on waterwise principles.
"It is a step in the right direction to eventually make every new home built in WA waterwise ensuring a secure water future for generations to come," the Minister said.
