Wiluna community members are encouraged to stand for council at the upcoming local government election on June 12.
Nominations for candidates to fill seven vacancies close 4pm, May 13.
Local Government Minister Tom Stephens said becoming a local government councillor was a serious commitment.
"This election gives the Shire of Wiluna a great opportunity to make a fresh start," Mr Stephens said.
"The new councillors will have an important voice in the future shape and amenity of their community through planning for land use and services.
"The best result for Wiluna will be a council that brings together skills and experience from across the whole community, from councillors who are committed to working together."
To help new candidates, the Department of Local Government and Regional Development has produced two publications:

  • 'Standing for Council: Information for Councillors'; and
  • 'Local Government Elections 2004: Questions and Answers'.
These publications feature helpful information on voting procedures, local government operations and how to nominate as a candidate.

Copies are available from the Shire of Wiluna and from the Department of Local Government and Regional Development's website at http://www.dlgrd.wa.gov.au.
