5/12/01
The Windmill and Wishing Well located at the intersection of Albany Highway, Shepperton Road and Asquith Street in Victoria Park will receive $5,000 to assist with its conservation through the 2001-2002 Heritage Grants Program, Environment and Heritage Minister Dr Judy Edwards announced today.
Administered by the Heritage Council of WA, the grant is part of a $1.03million allocation, which will support 63 conservation projects across the State.
"The $5,000 grant will be used for repairs to the existing fabric of the model windmill and wishing well which was built in 1939," Dr Edwards said.
Grant applicant and owner of the windmill and wishing well, the Town of Victoria Park, has initiated the restoration of the heritage-listed site.
The picturesque landmark at the entry to the Town of Victoria Park, is one of few surviving outdoor product displays built by leading Western Australian clay products company, H. L. Brisbane and Wunderlich Ltd.
"The planned conservation works will help to restore and protect this valuable part of our State's history," she said.
The next round of the Heritage Grants Program would be advertised in April 2002.
